29th November 2019 saw the bi-annual Living Choice Spring Fair return to the Davistown RSL next door to our village. Our residents were joined by residents from Broadwater Court and  Deep Water Court here on the Central Coast, as well as residents from Glen Haven and Leisure Lea Gardens in Sydney.

And here is the programme of fun activities for the day.

Several large coaches were needed to move all of the attendees to Davistown for the day.
First stop was the check in desk to pick up lanyards and paperwork.

All residents were treated to complimentary morning tea, a great lunch and several free drink tickets which were most welcome as it was a rather warm day. There were also numerous prizes donated by local businesses for the various fun competitions that were planned.

Local high school students kept us entertained with their musical talents during the day.

There was a large range of arts and crafts created by residents on display. All those attending were invited to vote for their favourites with the winners receiving a prize at the end of the day.

Outdoors there was a wide range of games planned to keep everyone occupied. But due to the warm weather many of these were curtailed later in the day.

The barefoot bowls was well attended….

Overall, another successful Living Choice Spring Fair was enjoyed by all who attended.

Thanks Living Choice…  Lets do it all again in two years time.

2017

On the 3rd November 2017 several hundred LCA residents descended once again on the Davistown RSL for a fun day of games and friendly competition. The last such occasion was way back in 2014. Three villages from the Central Coast and two from Sydney were represented, the more distant ones being brought up to Davistown by coach.

New arrivals were met in the foyer and were guided to activities

Of course, after a long trip, morning tea was high on the priority list.

After a “cuppa” it was time to check out the large range of crafts and hobbies on display. Most items were entered in a competition in their particular categories with results announced later in the day. Everyone had the opportunity to vote for their favourites.

Broadwater Court Head Gardener, Josh Montague, was a huge hit as the MC and town crier

What a talented bunch of residents we have.

There was a range of indoor games such as cards, snooker, and that “speed dating”!!!!! Did anyone get photos of that???

While outside there was an equally impressive range of games and activities.

All enjoyed throughout the day.

Back inside we were entertained for most of the day by musical students from the local High School. And a great job they did too!!!

That old favourite, Bingo, was well attended.

And after a break for lunch the afternoon Trivia Quiz was just as popular.

All too soon the day was drawing to a close and it was time to announce the prize winners. Fabulous prizes were sponsored by Harvey Norman Commercial, John Hull Electrical, Galley Kitchens, Barry Smith Garage Doors, GJC Electrical, Crainy’s Carpets, Kincumber Glass, Jenkins Plumbing, Blooms Chemist and The Cleaning Shop.

Time to head home.

A Final Note….. it is well worth recording here that arranging such a major event is no small task and it involves considerable costs as well as hours of work. Local residents supplied the morning and afternoon tea, assisted with the organisation of the day and each village contributed some funds. But most of the costs of the day and lunch with complimentary drinks was courtesy of our owners, Living Choice Australia. LCA staff put in many hours of work, in addition to their normal duties, to organise the day out for the residents.
This cooperation is indicative of the ongoing positive relationship that exists between residents, staff and the owner and operator of our LCA villages, long may it continue.

2014

On the 5th September 2014 Living Choice Australia management and staff hosted an inter-village spring fair at the Davistown RSL complex. They were ably assisted by resident coordinators  from  Broadwater Court, Glenhaven, Alloura Waters, Leisure Lea Gardens and Deepwater Court Villages. Around 500 residents from these villages registered to attend the fair.

Unfortunately the day started off with weather which was not ideal, including heavy rains, and many activities planned for outdoors had to be either cancelled or transferred indoors.

The organisers however quickly took the situation in hand and, while everyone else was enjoying a tasty morning tea, changes were made to the days event programme.

WOW… look at all those yummy cakes. And this was only one of several serving points.

Before long many participants were “eyes down” and engrossed in a round of Bingo while others enjoyed snooker, darts, indoor quoits or just viewing the great displays of residents crafts. We certainly have some very talented residents and the crafts were of a very high standard indeed.

Many staff and residents were fascinated by the model of a road grader made by Jim Murch of Deepwater Court. It was amazing to see that all of the moving parts such as steering, grader blade height and angles actually worked. Well done Jim.

 

Yes, much to everyones relief, the sun did come out after lunch and there was a rush to get outside and try some of the other activities. Although the sodden lawns and grounds prevented the full range of activities as originally planned there was still plenty to try out and some enthusiastic competition got under way.. Some of the activities are shown below..

For those not engaged in outside activities a spirited round of Trivia was held in the main auditorium. Many thanks to Gary Spencer for presenting a wide range of question topics which certainly kept everyone guessing .

Towards the end of the day a “thank you” ceremony was held to congratulate the organisers who had all put in a lot of hard work to make the day a success. A special thank you goes to Christine Osgood and the staff of LCA for organising the day as well as the individual village resident coordinators who had also put in many hours of work.

Following a tasty afternoon tea a lot of happy residents headed for home after a really terrific day out. It was especially good for residents to have the rare opportunity to get to know residents from other villages and discuss village life. Many good ideas were able to be exchanged.
