Over the second weekend in September 2014, Alloura Waters Village residents proudly presented their Quilt Show. After putting in many hours of extra work over the past few months our quilting ladies were very eager to show off the results of their efforts while other residents pitched in to lend a hand with setting up, running various stalls and generally helping out to ensure a successful show.
Importantly, funds raised on the day are donated to charity and several thousand dollars were raised for Parkinsons research.

Most organised events in the village are held in a single day, but this major event was unusual in that it was held over three full days. Our community centre was totally transformed into a display hall for the quilts and other crafts.
The event was open to the general public to come and view the quilts on display. Quilters from outside the village were also invited to display their works alongside those of residents.
The quilts on show were absolutely stunning. Here are just a few examples.
The show was mainly about the quilts but residents also took the opportunity to show off some other skills.

And here is an interesting family rug story….

A highlight of the weekend was a raffle for a quilt which was kindly donated. Here is the raffle draw in progress

And here is the lucky winner.

Of course a show such as this would not be complete without a refreshment area and our residents once again came through with a “sausage sizzle”, cakes, tea and coffee service.

So after many weeks of frantic preparation and three full days of the show our quilting group members and their volunteer helpers were able to relax and reflect on a very successful show. The big question now is…. will they do it all again next year????.. maybe, but only time will tell.
